Which sister did it? Answer to poll question #1

We know you’ve all been biting your nails waiting for the answer to our poll. So here it is…

The question was: Which sister stranded herself on her roof and required a firefighters rescue?

Before we get started, we should eliminate the obvious: The culprit couldn't have been Abby because, well, she doesn't own her own house and is therefore roofless. And it couldn't have been Cindy because she would have facebooked about it and had one of her 3,700+ friends there within minutes.

So that leaves Betsy. Keep reading for the whole story…

In the fall of 2010, I (Betsy) decided to take the day off of work to get some chores done around the house before the winter hit.  I went to Cindy's house to get the "family-shared" ladder. When I put the ladder against my house and took my leaf blower with me to blow the leaves out of the gutters and off of the roof, I didn’t realize I put it right next to a power line.  My leaf blower is electric so I was dragging the power chord around the roof.  Little did I know that the chord caught the ladder and knocked the ladder on the ground.  Since the leaf blower was so loud I didn't realize this until I was finished and ready to get off the roof.  It was approximately 2:45pm and everyone in the neighborhood is at work!!  My house is a ranch, so I am only one story off of the ground...I thought to myself, do I jump?  I didn't bring my cell phone up... or did I?  I check my pockets and sure enough I have my cell phone!!  I call my neighbor 5 houses down (Des Moines Fire Fighter) and ask if he is home.  He is not, but says he can call the local business next door to him and see if someone can walk down and put my ladder back up.  Sure enough his boss, the Des Moines Fire Department Chief comes and rescues my ladder.  After he puts my ladder back up, I also get a lecture about not putting my ladder right next to the power line! :) He tells me I can buy him a beer later to pay him back!

Now, before attempting to do any projects on my roof, I make sure a member of the DSM fire dept is close by. To see a live production, feel free to make a drive by in front of my house today as more gutter cleaning is needed. But no worries, I’ve already informed the Des Moines Fire Department. Because trust me, if you must be stranded on your roof, there is nothing better than a 'hot' fireman coming to the rescue.

Welcome to our blog!

The McGuire Sisters have been in different cities, different states and even different countries but for the first time in over 13 years we are finally together in the great state of Iowa. We aren't sure exactly why Iowa attracts us. Maybe it's the people, the growing community of athletes, the opportunities for business and personal development or even the weather. Wait. That's untrue. We all know the weather is the LAST thing to bring people here. But we love it nonetheless.

Our friend circles started to overlap and as a result, attend many of the same functions, hang outs, parties, join the same clubs, etc. (Actually the truth is we get a group rate and save on gas at the same time) We started going to a lot of things together...specifically hanging out with a small group of people in Waukee (I think you know who you are). Here is where the term "The McGuire Sisters" was coined. At first it started as a joke but quickly was embraced by many. Some have even become honorary members of The McGuire Sisters clan.

Until now, 11.11.11, we hadn't thought beyond name. But earlier today at a ribbon cutting for Orange Leaf in Urbandale, Cindy and I handed our business cards to a gentleman. He looked at them and said 'Ah, The McGuire Sisters'. He didn't know us and we didn't know him beyond that meeting; little did he know he sparked an idea. We realized that between the three of us we have many skills, lots of knowledge, a little humor and now a title. Why don't we share it? So that's what we decided to do. We want to share our likes, dislikes, learning experiences, tidbits of knowledge, and laughs along the way. We hope you enjoy our blog, learn something and tell your friends about The McGuire Sisters :)
